West Yorkshire, UK
Born is West Yorkshire, Deborah Gardner is the author of an eclectic artistic language through which she’s able to discover, explore and analyze the continuous contact between conflicting emotions. Certainly strengthened by her artistic background (Foundation Certificate in Art and Design – Percival Whitley College, Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Fine Art – Liverpool Art College, Masters of Art in Art and Design – Leeds University), she celebrates the union of two different expressive languages. Combining painting and poetry, Gardner formulates her intimate melody showing the eternal game of contrasts and affinities that happens between the visible surface and the immaterial inner reality. “For over thirty years I have been making Art: combining colors, lines, shapes, textures and words. I am influenced and inspired by myriads of things – conversations, books, films, music, TV, history, politics, religion, newspapers, places, people, relationships, feelings and memories. For me the process of making is key – I mix materials and mediums; weaving colors, symbols, patterns and text - tearing, cutting reassembling, gluing, painting, drawing, writing – (getting dirty). This for me is a type of alchemy; an attempt to create order from chaos. All of my work is a form of storytelling […] All my images are pictorial metaphors that on the surface look aesthetically pleasing yet on closer inspection expose something darker; luminous distractions that conceal as many truths as lies…” (from Deborah Gardner’s Statement).
