  • Virginia Vargas - Antica Farmacia

This artwork, made by Virginia Vargas, shows the furniture of an old drugstore. The work of art Antica Farmacia let us admire the poetic realistic language of the artist that is able to transport us directly into the scene.

    • Born in Montevideo (Uruguay), Vargas moved to Italy in 1976. Influenced by her father’s photographs, she has become one of the most interesting performers in Hyperrealism. Starting from the innovations introduced by the well-known Gustave Courbet, Virginia has explored the artistic medium’s possibilities. Her experience shows how deep and poetic could be the relationship between photography and painting. Despite she is a free hand performer, in her artworks we can find the perfect marriage between the scientificity of photographic representation and the sensitive energy of painting. Supported by famous critics like Luca Beatrice, Vargas creates flawless unions, able to inspire indiscriminately our senses. "Virginia Vargas proposes the temporary evolution of the Realism introduced by Jean Désiré Gustave Courbet (1819-1877), but also demonstrates the efficacy of the exchange between tradition and innovations. In fact, although she uses photography as an aesthetic model to create pictorial images, her artworks are still impregnated with painting sensitivity. The mixture of two different expressive techniques, and the impeccable use of the brush, let Virginia show her elegant approach. The realistic reproduction of a particular moment is, certainly, the main peculiarity of photography but the painting creation inevitably implicates the emotional involvement of the artist. While scientificity makes the subject clear, unconscious painting impurities consecrate the creative act".
